Your rights

When you pay with PayPal Credit, your purchase is covered by PayPal's Buyer Protection Policy for eligible transactions. This means if the item you bought doesn't arrive, or is significantly not as described, PayPal can help you get your money back. For UK consumers, purchases over £100 made with PayPal Credit also benefit from Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974. This makes PayPal Credit, as the credit provider, jointly liable with the seller for breaches of contract or misrepresentation, offering a powerful layer of protection.

Step by step

  1. 1Contact the seller directly to try and resolve the issue. Provide your order details and explain that the item has not arrived.
  2. 2If the seller doesn't respond or resolve the issue, open a dispute in PayPal's Resolution Centre within 180 days of your purchase. Select 'Item not received' as the reason.
  3. 3Escalate the dispute to a claim within 20 days if you can't reach an agreement with the seller. PayPal will then review your case.
  4. 4Provide any requested information or evidence to PayPal, such as communication with the seller or proof that the item was not delivered to your address.

What they'll say, and your comeback

It's on its way, just delayed.

Comeback, I understand delays happen, but the delivery window has passed. If you can't provide valid tracking or a new guaranteed delivery date, I need a refund.

You need to contact the shipping company.

Comeback, My contract is with you, the seller, not the shipping company. It's your responsibility to ensure the item reaches me, or to resolve issues with your chosen courier.

We only offer store credit for missing items.

Comeback, I paid for an item, not store credit. Under PayPal's Buyer Protection, I am entitled to a full refund to my original payment method for an item not received.

FAQ

How long do I have to open a dispute with PayPal?

You typically have 180 days from the date of your purchase to open a dispute in PayPal's Resolution Centre.

What if the seller provides a fake tracking number?

PayPal will investigate the tracking information provided. If the tracking is invalid, shows delivery to a different address, or doesn't confirm delivery to you, your claim should be successful.
