How much can you reclaim in overdraft fees?
Banks charged a fee every time you dipped into your overdraft, sometimes daily. If you were struggling at the time, a chunk of that is reclaimable, plus interest. Tweak the numbers to see roughly what you are owed.

An estimate, not a promise. Your actual claim depends on your bank and your circumstances.
How overdraft reclaims work
A bank should not pile on fees that push someone who is already short into a deeper hole. Where it did, the charges can count as unfair, and the bank can be made to refund them with 8% statutory interest. You complain to the bank first. If they brush you off, the Financial Ombudsman Service reviews it for free and can order the refund.
Worried it is just you? It is not. UK banks fielded 1.83 million complaints in the first half of 2025 and upheld most of them, with current accounts the single most complained-about product. The odds are on your side.
Given an overdraft, card or loan you could never really afford? Use the irresponsible-lending refund calculator to reclaim the interest too.
Questions
Can I really reclaim overdraft fees?+
Often, yes. If a bank kept charging you overdraft fees while you were clearly struggling, those charges can be unfair, and the bank may have to refund them plus interest. You complain directly and for free, and escalate to the Financial Ombudsman if they say no.
How much interest can I add?+
Refunds of unfairly applied charges usually carry 8% simple statutory interest per year. This calculator adds a rough estimate of that on top of the fees.
Do I need a claims company?+
No. You can complain yourself and keep 100%. Reclaim writes the letter for you and shows you exactly how to escalate.
